What is Hive?
Hive is a globally inclusive community for farmed animal advocates. As a movement multiplier, we connect people around the world with the support, insights, and opportunities they need to make a lasting impact.

Are you just a Slack group?
Hive is much more than just a Slack group. Our team runs an ecosystem of programs that together help us offer a year-round, globally inclusive digital home for farmed animal advocates. Hive Slack is one of our programs and is an integral part of our work. It serves as a hub for community members to enter into the movement, build connections, deepen belonging, find opportunities to contribute to farmed animal advocacy, strengthen their knowledge, and quickly and effectively collaborate. Hive’s complementary programs–including our Events, Asia Ambassador Program, Latin America Ambassador Program, Hive Highlights, and more, feed in to and build up from the Hive Slack. We aim to offer our community members a “choose your own adventure” that fits each advocate’s unique goals and challenges in their efforts to impactfully contribute to farmed animal advocacy.
Who can join Hive's Slack community?
Our Slack community is open to anyone involved in or interested in farmed animal advocacy. Whether you're a seasoned advocate or just starting, you'll find a supportive and welcoming environment where you can take your next step–whatever that looks like for you.
What programs does Hive offer?
Hive offers a variety of programs to support the farmed animal advocacy movement, including:

Newsletter: Biweekly newsletter sent to the inbox with opportunities and updates in the animal advocacy movement.
Events: Workshops, webinars, and other events focused on advocacy and coordination.

AI & Animals: Exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and animal advocacy.
Can I join if I'm interested in helping companion animals, animals used for testing, conservation and other animal-related topics?
While the Hive Slack Community is currently free for everyone to join, in our experience members who benefit most are interested in/are working on farmed animal advocacy. We greatly value various perspectives but want to retain our focus on helping farmed animals–in itself a massive global challenge and incredibly multi-facted topic. That's why the vast majority of the Hive Slack channels and discussions are dedicated to topics relevant to farmed animal advocacy. We are mindful of the time community members spend on our platforms, and if your focus is outside of this area, you are less likely to find Hive valuable.

What kind of events does Hive host?
Hive hosts a variety of events including:

Are Hive's resources free to access?
Yes, all of our resources are freely accessible to anyone. We believe in providing open access to information and tools that can help advance the movement.
How do you measure your impact?
Measuring our impact as a community building organization is notoriously difficult. We rely on a variety of leading metrics that are indicative of a healthy and sustainably growing community, such as the number of weekly active users on our Slack space or the open rates for our newsletters. Additionally, we take note of more tangible outcomes such as job/volunteer placements or new projects/initiatives started as a result of our programs. We also regularly assess indirect impact indicators such as the share of community members who feel more connected to or better informed about the farmed animal advocacy movement. While our leading metrics are largely automatically tracked by the platforms we used, we collect our more tangible outcomes and stories manually through testimonials or our community surveys. As such, a lot of the impact we may have is not only less tangible, but also unreported. If you have found Hive helpful in your advocacy, consider leaving a testimonial!
How do you collaborate with other organizations?
Collaboration is one of our values! We are always working to build strong relationships and partnerships with other organizations, to make sure that we are not duplicating work while also combining our efforts to multiply our impact.
For example, we have created channels or feeds in the Hive Community Slack to automatically post updates from FAST Forum, EA Forum, Connect for Animals, and various job boards. Other groups or small organizations use our Slack to host their communications. We’ve also appreciate co-hosting select events.
